5 reasons your car is acting different

As a car owner, it is probable that over the course of your ownership of the car ,you will face at least a few situations where it seems that your vehicle is acting weird or different. It is not a comfortable situation for you but no machine can be efficient all the time and one can only learn how to react to such situations. These situations can arise at any time of the car’s service life. You can have a brand new car or a tried and tested family car which can start having some issues with it.

When the car sends such signals and signs which convince you that something is not right with it, one cannot ignore it. Having a good grasp of the various reasons which could cause the car to function improperly will be helpful in such a situation. And acting early can help you overcome the problems without further damage.

Let us go through some of the reasons why the car might be acting differently.

1- Excessive smoke from the exhaust : If your vehicle is emitting abnormal levels of smoke from the exhaust, it is natural to get worried. Such a symptom should never be ignored. The reasons for it could be major or minor. The major reasons which are to be looked at is if the car engine is malfunctioning and the car injectors are faulty. An unclean air filter , inadequate tuning or a malfunctioning electronic sensor could be other reasons. These faults may be looked at depending upon whether the car is fuelled by diesel, petrol or some other fuel. An interested car owner knows his vehicle like a mother knows her baby. Therefore it the smoke is too abnormal, one should get the car to a mechanic as soon as possible.

2- Dirty Air Filter : If your car is not starting or making strange noises when you try to start it, it could be that it has a clogged air filter. Air filters need to be changed every fifteen to twenty thousand miles depending upon the manufacturer specifications. And if left unattended, it can lead to car breakdown and strange behaviour especially when you try to start it.

3- Dead Battery : So you hop on your vehicle early in the morning but it is refusing to get started. You were riding around the city only one night back, so what could have happened.The most common reason for such an event could be that you have a car with a dead battery. The causes of this malfunction could be many. One could have left some light of the car switched on for the night or some internal element of the electrical circuit could have become faulty. The battery could be old and fully exhausted. If the car works by the jump start technique, it should mean that your diagnosis was correct.

4- Car Jerks : If the car is jerking when you start to accelerate , it could mean a lot of things. The car could have dirty fuel injectors or a broken catalytic converter. Also, it could be a case of a faulty mass flow air sensor or a malfunctioning fuel pump. This symptom of the car will mostly be treatable at a mechanic’s place as home remedy for it could be cumbersome.
